SURREY SPACE CENTRE BARE NEUTRON MONITOR STATION

Humidity
Temperature & Pressure

About the Station

In 2021, three unleaded neutron detectors were installed at the Surrey Space Centre, University of Surrey, Guildford UK. The detectors are manufactured by Hydroinnova and are used across the world to sense soil moisture changes. In the UK they form the COSMOS-UK network.

The station consists of two detectors with a moderating polyethylene layer, and one detector without a moderator. A small weather station has also been deployed to collect data for use in correcting the neutron count data for pressure and humidity variations.

Neutron count data are currently available to view in real-time (above), and we are working towards a solution to make the data freely available for download.

Note: the station’s vertical effective cut-off rigidity is 2.91GV
